Hacklebarney State Park

We headed to Hacklebarney to get the last bits of lovely fall color before Sandy came to town and ended foliage season…. and as it turned out made a huge mess out of Jersey in general.

Even though it was overcast the day we went, it was still gorgeous. Hacklebarney isn’t a very big park with a lot of trails, but there is a lot of scenery packed in and is a must-do park if you’re into landscape photography.

Wildcat Ridge – Four Birds, Hawkwatch, Beaver Pond

It had been over three years since we’d hiked Wildcat Ridge (“Four Birds Trail (south) – Wildcat Ridge“). We had planned to revisit last year and just didn’t get to it. So we chose that for our first hike getting back into the swing of things – I’d been sidelined with a sore foot issue for [...]

Pyramid Mountain – Whale Head, Bear Rock, Kincaid

The great thing about keeping a Trail Blog is being able to track info about your hikes – but the downside is that it underscores how quickly time passes. I was sure we were just at Pyramid until I noticed that the last entry for it was over a year ago – and that was [...]

Morristown National Park – New Jersey Brigade Area

We’d just been to Morristown National Park last fall and did the Grand Loop at Jockey Hollow, but is was not long after Snowtober had made a mess of hiking trails around the state and we wanted to hit the park in the Spring. Jockey Hollow can be wonderfully dense with green, so we decided [...]

Black River Park – Cooper Mill to Lamerson Road

We decided to head over to the Black River Park in Chester as we hadn’t been for about a year and a half, and that was during the fall (got a few nice foliage photos too) so we wanted to head over in spring. Sunny skies and temps in the upper 50s made for perfect [...]

Mahlon Dickerson – Highlands, Pine Swamp, Saffin Pond

For our annual New Years Day hike we ended up at Mahlon Dickerson Reservation. Many people had the same idea, whether it was to take advantage of the unusually mild (low-50s) winter day or maybe getting an early start on a New Years resolution to exercise more. We chose Mahlon because we wanted a moderate [...]

Jockey Hollow/Lewis Morris Park

IMG_0832

Hike details found on the Jockey Hollow page.  We ended up at Morristown National Park for Veteran’s Day Weekend, hiking Jockey Hollow and a bit into the adjacent Lewis Morris Park. It had been over two years since we’d done the Grand Loop and Mt Kemble Loop trails. As soon as we drove into the [...]
