Henry Hudson Trail

Updated:

A paved trail on a former rail bed that runs through Monmouth County.

There are three separate sections of the Henry Hudson Trail, one north and two in the southern portion. The Bayshore Trail is at the eastern end of the HHT.

Henry Hudson overview map showing the location of each section of the trail.

Henry Hudson Trail (North):

The northern section runs from Keyport to the Atlantic Highlands, and can be connected via about a mile road ride to the Bayshore Bike Trail.

Pass through shady forests and marshlands, past backyards, over boardwalks, with views of Sandy Hook Bay, the Verrazano bridge, and the NYC skyline.

Available miles: 12

Henry Hudson Trail (South):

A paved trail in two sections that run from Matawan to Marlboro and Marlboro to Freehold.

It is not recommended to connect the sections, as the route between them is on a busy road.

Available miles: 10 (about 5 per section).

Our two cents:

All sections are paved but not entirely smooth sailing – there are occasional bumps and dips from roots, some of these can be pretty high. Street crossings can be frequent. Some traffic noise.

Updated: 6/2022 – Added overview map and link to new page for middle HHT, minor edits and reorganization, new photos. All three sections have been biked again within the last year.
