Pequannock Watershed Hiking Permit

*PERMIT REQUIRED* to hike in the Pequannock Watershed area.

Hikers can access Bearfort Mountain, Buckabear Mountain and Pond, Highlands Trail and other trails on the property.

Permits are required for all parking areas identified P1 to P9, except for P7.

Per hiker, per calendar year:

  • Newark Residents: $ 8.00
  • Non-Newark Residents: $14.00

Pick up a permit at the West Milford or Newark offices. (These are likely only M- F but couldn’t locate office hours on the site.) By mail is not offered.

Credit Card (Master Card and Visa only), money order or cashier’s check. Cash no longer accepted.

Carry the permit with you and display the parking decal on your vehicle.

There are seasonal rules that should be listed on the Newark Watershed Hiking page but as of this update seems incomplete.

Use either of the map sets that cover this area: North Jersey Trails and Jersey Highlands Trails.
