Norvin Green – Wyanokie Crest Trail

Hiked:

Just had a LOT of rain so streams were flowing and trails very soggy.

VERY windy today so it was chilly too, all of which may explain why we only saw 4 groups of people on a otherwise nice fall day… Or that we took Wyanokie Crest trail which seemed like it didn’t get alot of use.

6.1 miles roundtrip, about 4 hours. Parked at Weis Ecology Center, bathrooms at center, on right around corner, under stairs.

For complete hike info visit our main Norvin Green State Forest page.

Took Otter Hill GREEN to an unmarked WOODS ROAD. A sign for Glenwild Fire road is on the corner across from it.

If you continue around the corner on GREEN and hit WHITE, you’ve missed it. It’s not on the park map but on the 2005 NYNJTC map as a dotted line.

Wet and rocky woods road climbs gently, some old WHITE blazes visible.

RED dot crosses at one point, then YELLOW (Wyanokie Crest). Took YELLOW left (south).

VERY rocky trail, hopping from rock to rock. Two viewpoints on rocky outcrops, NYC skyline visible.

A STEEP rocky and wet descent follows. Rock hop a wet area/stream then climb a bit. Arrive at GREEN and ORANGE.

Took ORANGE. At Junction with Red, took left onto RED for a short ways then back onto GREEN.

Just before Weis, followed W markings back to center. Can take GREEN all the way as well.

* WENDYS at .6 miles past the turnoff on 511 from 287.
