Kuhl Renegade Pant Review

Updated:

Kuhl’s Renegade is a comfortable quick-dry pant made of softshell fabric.

We’re both fans of Kuhl products so we were happy they contacted us again to review some products. This time it was the men’s Renegade Pant and the women’s Klash Pant.

Kuhl clothing manages to hit all the outdoor tech specs while still fitting and looking good enough for travel and casual use.

Appearance & Fit

The material is soft and comfortable with a nice stretch and range of movement for scrambling.

It’s available in a range of attractive muted earth tones (“Khaki” is shown in the photos) and there are 3 fits to choose from: Klassik, Tapered Chino, and Tapered.

Tom got the Klassik which is a full seat/thigh with a slight taper through the lower leg and seems to be the equivalent of “relaxed fit”.

The Specs

  • Softshell Duralux water and abrasion resistant fabric
  • Quick-dry stretch fabric
  • Articulated knees, gusseted crotch
  • UPF 50+ sun protection
  • 8 total pockets

Pockets can define the usefulness of an outdoor pant and there are plenty here.

One of Tom’s favorite details on Kuhl pants is the super handy cell phone pocket. These pants also offer two zippered thigh pockets for security.

Performance

The weight is good for shoulder seasons plus the Klassik fit leaves enough room for a lightweight thermal baselayer.

This pant seems to fall between the vented Konfidant Air that Tom uses in warm weather and the heavier Transcendr he uses in winter (formerly called Travrse).

Overall

Kuhl’s Renegade is a good all-around multi-season outdoor pant as well as for travel and casual use.

Update 11/2023: Basically like new still, even with constant use.
