Hiking in New Jersey
& Beyond

Most people wouldn't associate hiking with New Jersey, but there are actually a lot of great hiking trails in NJ, and many scenic areas to explore. NJ Hiking was created to highlight the many hiking opportunities in New Jersey.

We've been hiking all over New Jersey for years and years, so we decided to put together a site with all of our resources in one handy spot.

We've collected lots of NJ trail maps in our online guide, and also rounded up all the best books and guides on hiking in New Jersey, plus Web sites where you can find additional info on hiking in the Garden State.

For the beginner hiker, or someone new to hiking in New Jersey, our NJ Hiking 101 page is a great source of information, as well as our Hiking Tips and Tricks page and information about ticks and bugs. Also, check out our NJ Trail Blog for ideas on hikes in NJ - we post our own hikes here, how to get there, and trail info.

In our media section, there are videos and photos of many trails around New Jersey - get an idea of the trail terrain before you head out.

Learn to watch for the symptoms, prevention and treatment of common hiking health issues such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke, hypothermia, and hyponatremia on our Hiking Health page.

Some of the best hikes in NJ can be found in the Delaware Water Gap area and Jenny Jump State Forest, Norvin Green State Forest, Pyramid Mountain, The Farny Highlands, Cheesequake State Park... just to name a few.

In addition to our New Jersey hike coverage, we include the areas within daytrip driving distance to NJ: the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware Water Gap with the summit at Mt Minsi and the portion of the AT (Appalachian Trail) that continues south from there.

We also cover Harriman State Park and Sterling Forest - both are just over the border in New York - and an easy drive for a large portion of NJ.

Whether you are new to hiking or are looking to plan your first 12-miler, we hope you find NJ Hiking helpful.

Now, go take a hike!
